Profile
Bas Vodde is a coach, programmer, trainer, and author related to Agile and Lean product development.
He is also the co-creator of the LeSS (Large-Scale Scrum) framework for scaling agile development.
He coaches organizations at three distinct levels: organizational, team, and individual technical practices. For over a decade, he has trained thousands of people in software development, Scrum, and modern agile practices.
Bas primarily helps organizations improve their product development in Asia, operating out of Odd-e Singapore.
Born in the Netherlands, he previously lived in China and Finland, and is now based in Singapore.
He used to work at a startup within a very traditional corporate environment.
This far-from-comfortable experience convinced him that Agile and Lean development is a more humane way of creating software products, no matter how large the scale of development might be.
He had the opportunity to introduce agile development—specifically Scrum—at Nokia Networks (formerly NSN), which required him to relocate to Helsinki.
There, he observed numerous product groups adopting Scrum and other agile practices.
Moving south from freezing Finland, he returned to China to focus on Scrum adoption within a single large product group.
While Bas is particularly interested in Scrum with an emphasis on large enterprises and large-scale product development, he also enjoys working on technical practices, especially test-driven development (TDD) (particularly in embedded environments) and continuous integration (CI).
He continues to work as a developer.
This is because he strongly believes that a well-factored codebase is absolutely necessary to maintain agility and flexibility.
His interests include lean manufacturing, quality management, and, of course, researching programming.
Bas is also a co-author of CppUTest, a unit testing and mocking framework for C/C++, and Osaka, a Mac UI automation framework written in Ruby.
